Juul does a break down on what are the qualifications of a good game, namely six. In the beginning review, she comments and lists on the interpretations of games from other famous theorists (ironically including Huizinga. All those listed included the theme of the set rules in a game, and the choice to follow them. There was no discussion about the escape from reality, more and more game theory seems to be pointing towards what constitutes a game rather than why we play them. In turn, these constituencies are the reasons for the games' success.
Anywho, Juul discusses why it is we're so infatuated with computer games. Any digital game, I say, is most likely successful due to it's visual and creative appeal. Many games while having rules and goals that are worth following are found in these computer games, but the graphics and visuals are my guess as to why they are so engrossing- particularly why there are so many of the same 'game'. In her ending she mentions her reasons for why she believes in the idea of creating a location (sims, assassins games), of modifying the rules, and my personal favorite- the irony that our rules from even the oldest games are standard enough for computers to follow.
Tie that in with accessibility and usability, and well... you've got a pretty great money maker!
